06/29/2018: 2018 Fireworks Postponed
San Luis Valley Federal Bank President Duane Bussey announced the bank sponsored fireworks show in Alamosa will be postponed.
“We have been in discussions with Fire Chief Don Chapman and City of Alamosa staff for several weeks and we are all concerned about the unusually dry conditions in Alamosa and across the Valley. It seems appropriate we postpone the fireworks show until we get some good rains and our local fire bans are lifted,” he said. “We are disappointed we won’t be able to help the community put an exciting finish to the July 4 holiday. However, we will work with the city to find a date, hopefully by the end of summer or early fall, when we can provide a show for everyone to enjoy.”
The bank has sponsored the July 4th fireworks show in Alamosa for the last 21 years. The bank’s local pyrotechnics team, led by licensed pyrotechs Darrell Meis and Jarod Lucero, has managed the show each of those 21 years. “We have a dedicated group of about a dozen people who help with the show each year. In addition we get great support from the fire department, law enforcement and the City Parks and Recreation Department. It’s been a great partnership for many years and we appreciate everyone working together to do something the entire community can enjoy,” said Bussey.
